Pre-defined Youth

Let us make a celebration of our youth – of our choice to live.

As South African youths, we are frequently expected to dream big and reach for the stars. Yet whose sky are we shooting for? How big are our dreams, then? The advice is to “become a doctor, lawyer, or engineer and you’ll be set,” but what if you have artistic potential or if you’re passionate in something entirely different? We must all choose our own route that speaks to who we are as individuals, free from the constraints of societal conventions.

We are only human, nevertheless, at the end of the day. Humanity comes with a wide range of emotions that we haven’t fully explored or that we still don’t fully comprehend, but that’s absolutely fine since that’s what makes life an adventure.

When you awaken in the morning, you take on obstacles head-on. You might be putting a lot of effort into your career or studies. Let’s focus a little more specifically. Perhaps you are experiencing internal conflict or being bullied at school yet no one is aware of it. What then do you do? Go about your day while putting on a brave face. For the young people, this has long been their reality. But who’s to say that we can’t alter the story’s plot? Select our own synopsis, and confidently utter “enough of that.”

It’s time to freshen things up and consider life from a different angle now that things are looking gloomy. Inspired by the struggles of our forebears for equality, education, and rights. They determined they wouldn’t let anyone else create their story for them and paved their own path. ‘The choice‘ is the one thing in life that no one can take away from you. The decision to take a stand, to transcend all, to speak up, and to carve your own path through life. It begs the question of why our forefathers might have provided such great inspiration. Today, to whom do we turn? So let’s seeā€¦

People often remark that a house does not make a home, but what if there is none to call home? Then what? Well, dear reader, when you locate a place within yourself, draw strength from it even if you can’t feel it; just have faith that it’s there. Be fearless, amazing, humble, and true to oneself.

South African youth often face challenges in their lives, such as career, education, or bullying. However, it’s important to choose a path that speaks to one’s individuality and not societal conventions. Humanity has a wide range of emotions that we haven’t fully explored, but that’s what makes life an adventure. Embrace the struggles of our forebears for equality, education, and rights, who chose to take a stand and carve their own path.
