Simply Human

Here are some kind words from Coach Sibo – remember, you are simply human.

Inspired by the challenges faced by the youth of South Africa, we have made it our mission to ensure that you have a safe place to call home. I would suggest that you take inspiration from the class of the class of ’76 who were able to fight for their rights, but I believe you don’t need to look very far since your inspiration is already within you. You are courageous, resilient, and optimistic in the face of the most adverse circumstances. Hope and inspiration come from you.

The first place you call home is your mind, which has more sway over your daily life than you would realize. Similar to how a tree draws power from its roots to grow tall through all seasons, your mind is the root of your strength. The most effective instrument you have is your mind, which you can train to work in your favor. I imagine the first thing that probably crossed your mind was “counselling, maybe?” Counseling is, in fact, a really powerful way to raise your mood or improve your mental health. Sometimes all you need is a spot where you may breathe freely in peace.

Another thought would be the emotions you’re feeling whilst reading this article. You have the freedom to express your feelings in their unadulterated, unfiltered state. By losing sight of who you are and what you’re capable of, tapping into your emotions that have been building up like massive stones of grief and loss, melancholy, and anger can be overwhelming. Thus, even if you’re wallowing in waves of discomfort, anxiety, among other concerns the waves will calm down. We’ll walk you through the rest; all you have to do is take the first step!

Know that there is light at the end of the tunnel and clear skies ahead as we navigate every one of the challenges and hardships you have been experiencing. Here’s some random food for thought: A Twitter thread has been started by celebrities from Mzanzi who have been upfront about their mental illnesses. So, if Mzanzi celebs can take to the stand and wear their hearts on their sleeves, what’s holding you back from following suit?
